Joseph Keifer, PsyD, BSN, RN

Psycholgist

Joe's journey toward becoming a psychologist was a non-linear path that enriched his understanding of the human experience. Prior to his career as a psychologist, Joe served as a dedicated nurse, where he witnessed firsthand the profound impact of empathy, open communication, and prioritizing the well-being of patients. These values continue to guide his daily practice as a psychologist.

Joe earned his doctorate in psychology from the Institute of Graduate Clinical Psychology at Widener University, specializing in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy/Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (CBT/ACT) and Health Psychology. He further honed his expertise during a postdoctoral fellowship at the Aaron T. Beck Psychopathology Research Center at the University of Pennsylvania. Under the mentorship of Dr. Aaron Beck, a pioneer in CBT and CT-R, Joe received advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy (CT-R). He went on to work with individuals facing serious mental health challenges and played a pivotal role in training and consulting with organizations implementing CT-R. Joe's commitment to teaching and consultation continues as he serves as a faculty member at The Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy and teaching nurse practitioner students at the University of Pennsylvania.

When it comes to psychotherapy, Joe adopts an action-oriented, pragmatic, and strengths-based approach. He firmly believes that the most effective therapy emerges from a collaborative partnership between equals. Recognizing that one-size-fits-all solutions do not suit everyone, Joe places great emphasis on tailoring his approach to suit the unique needs of each client, even if it means departing from traditional therapeutic methods. Joe's commitment to personalized, adaptable therapy underscores his dedication to the holistic well-being of those he serves.

In addition to his work in psychology, Joe is also a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), a testament to his unwavering dedication to helping others in diverse settings.
